Social media

It has so many forms and attitudes—let us count the shades!

Social media platforms (SMP)—this keyword is much like AI, quite messy and layered and highly misunderstood and misrepresented. As with all of our keywords, we will dig deeper in later sections of this work. But a quick note before we rush off:

Social media is the main hub in which other forms of SMP sit, and they all fall under different modes and styles, primarily—

  • Web-based content dating back to the dawn of the Internet
    1. Blogs
    2. Forums
  • App-based content created and shared by a user
    1. Networking tools
      1. Facebook
      2. Twitter
    2. The most important features that tie the tendrils of SMP together are—
      1. Information dissemination
      2. Community building

There are tiers to SMP that can be thought of as multimodality. However, in Factions, we prefer to focus on the field of cybernetics (which overlaps with multimodality). We lean on Norbert Wienerfor’s ideas, particularly as found in Cybernetics Or Control and Communication in the Animal and the Machine.
